Four Short Poems of Lingxi, translated by Noéll Noelle

“A floating hot air balloon”

A girl’s hand is in flame,
her body is inflated,
it is expected to rise and turn into a little red dot in the sky.
A bamboo basket is filled with fish, leaping,
they almost slide out, but the clouds have smoothen
a memory path, floating above
there will be many green plants,
seeing it off along the way.

“A torch”

The night
is illuminated by light.
I saw your eyes
see through my bones,
crystal clearly.

“Broken”

People's arms
are dividing up the streets.
The crack of a tiger’s bite:
on the right is the dignity of a country,
on the left is the dignity of the people.

“Conch’s voices”

Time is crawling into a conch’s melodious gap,
your gentleness, like water
beating along the shore,
like songs,
washing out a C major’s gaze.
