The whisper 人言

Don’t whisper in my ears.
Wanna give me an unquiet dream.
Under a pipal, I meet an old man.
He bid me take the fame easy,
as the leaves grow on the tree.

Don’t guess what I am.
Probably I’m not that person who you are guessing,
But, I may be.
Beside the fearful stream I am, wander on the thin ice.

This is an interesting poem. We often say that someone has been “whispering in the ear” of someone else to influence their decisions. To whisper in someone’s ear is a way of subtly suggesting something. The poet protests that she is not as she appears to be, and she disregards the old man’s advice and is willing to take the risk of her fame, which she equates to walking on thin ice besides a roaring stream instead of proceeding slowly and safely. She is willing to live at a fast pace, to be independent, to take risks.

Thanks for sharing, please keep it up!

Below is just my attempt for your kind review, FYI only as it might have changed the meaning of the original :

Don’t whisper in my ear.
Wanna give me a bad dream?
Under a fig tree, I meet an old man.
He tells me to take the fame slowly,
as the leaves grow on the tree.

Don’t guess what I am.
I’m probably not the person you think I am,
But, I may be.
I walk beside the roaring stream, wandering onto the thin ice.
