〈曬衣竿〉蘇善作／蘇善翻譯

你把一天的奔波脫水
其餘我擔
頂多一件厚此一件薄彼
一條長吁，另一條短嘆
好吧
容你再加一條手絹
能給傷心加上花邊的那款

I'll take the rest.
No more than a thick fondness, a thin chill,
A piece of long sigh, and the other in haste.
Fine.
You may add one silky handkerchief
Which is good at keeping sorrows laced.

問好蘇善!
這句這樣翻似乎有點怪怪的，有沒有高人要幫忙指點一下呢?

我的想法是，厚此彼薄是成語，不能直譯。
能夠的話，找一個相似的英語expression，再加以創作。
其他例子如「人山人海」、「聲東擊西」都不能直譯。
反過來，一些英文諺語或俗語等也不能直譯，如「blood is thicker than water」、「butterfly in the stomach」。

請教高人來著^_^

蘇善的這首詩對於中文的讀者來說是極富韻味的
不過在英文翻譯上確實困難重重
也許最關鍵的問題在於
西方國家並沒有曬衣的習慣
因此光是詩題就會讓讀者困惑半天了吧？

撇開這個不談
如何翻譯 厚此薄彼 倒是一個很有趣的問題
我想也許可以稍微跳脫 厚\薄 的字面意義
而從 冷\暖 這條路上切入
這樣就能兼顧 衣物 和 人情 這兩方面的原意？

應該還是會曬衣服，但是是用架子
看到他們用曬衣竿我會想笑吧

不過這種好像通常只是收納用的唷~~

我很少看過洋人把衣服掛在上面曬太陽哩~~

通常都是曬衣架~~
